　１回に１セントか２セントずつ貯めたものだ Pennies saved one and two at a time 雑貨屋で強引にけちって by bulldozing(ブルドーザーのように強引にする) the grocer また八百屋で and the vegetable man そして肉屋で and the butcher 顔を赤らめてまでして until one's(人の) cheeks(頬) burned(焼けた) けちだという無言の非難をされて with the silent imputation(非難) of parsimony そんなしみったれた買い方にである that such close dealing(しみったれた取引) implied.(暗示された)

　デラは３度数えた Three times Della counted it. １ドル８７セント One dollar and eighty- seven cents. そして明日はクリスマスだった And the next day would be Christmas.

 One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one's cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty- seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas.
